I am a clinical psychologist in private practice working primarily from an analytic perspective. Patients are unique and therefore, I tailor therapy to the individual needs of each patient. At times, this involves incorporating other therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Family therapy and group therapy are passions which I deeply miss.
I obtained my BSocSci Psychology, BsocSci (HONS) Psychology, and MA Clinical Psychology degrees at the University of Pretoria.
My training and early years of practice involved working at various clinics, psychiatric institutions, hospitals and Correctional Services. During this time, I gained extensive experience in Cognitive, Neurocognitive, Personality and Projective Assessments. As a clinician, my diverse experience led me to work with patients with an array of difficulties such as mood and personality disorders, psychosis, neurodiversity, gender dysphoria and transitions. During Covid, my priority was providing support for my colleagues in the health profession as well as being part of the global health team at Anglo American as their Wellness Advisor. My personal experience with infertility and the fragility of the treatment resulted in a special interest in providing donor assessments and helping individuals and couples navigate their fertility journey.
My professional registrations include the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Endoscopy (SASREG), South African Psychoanalytic Initiative (SAPI), and I am the preferred psychological provider for a SASREG-accredited fertility clinic in Sandton.
“Therapy is all about learning to become comfortable with the uncomfortable and with that, life will begin at the end of your comfort zone – Tamaryn Spandiel (MA Clinical Psychologist, UP).”
